Energy Saving Tips - Worcester Bosch
Door Insulation
When the cold wind is blowing, any little gaps around the edge of the door can lower the temperature in the house dramatically. It is important to take care of the draft proofing. There are a lot of different types of draft proofing, the one we have used here (in the video below) is a rubber seal, it goes all the way around the edge of the door, and across the top. Down on the threshold we have a double seal strip which has got rubber seals to stop any draft coming in and also stop rain blowing under. Just to finish the job off we have draft proffed the letter box and a rubber seal around the outside and a brush on the inside and those two things together can save you a lot of money on your fuel bills.
Central Heating Control Systems
The real secret to saving money on your heating bills is the control system. Control systems can be very sophisticated but there's a bare minimum required. You need a timer programmer, a room thermostat and some thermostatic radiator valves. If you havent got these contact Invicta Gas who will be happy to give advice.
Worcester Bosch Boilers
With a Worcester Bosch boiler you can be sure that you are getting the maximum efficiency out of your heating but in order to keep that heat in the building you have to look at the various aspects such as insulation and glazing. If you have metal framed window with single glazing that's probably about the worst thing you can have so it's worth thinking about upgrading that to a double glazed window. You can have a metal frame or more likely a wooden or UPVC frame but the glass now has to be a Low E Glass which is a special type of glass which lets the suns rays in, so you get the benefit of heat from the sun but it stops the heat from the building escaping. Also modern windows have to have triple ventillation whicjh allows a little bit of ventillation into the house to combat condensation and keep things healthy.
Radiators
If you have radiators against outside walls heat can be escaping. If you stick some foil behind the radiators it reflects the heat back into the room. You cannot just use ordinary cooking foil. You need a special foil with an insullating layer like the one shown in the video.
In an ideal world you would not necessarily put furniture in front of radiators
but sometimes it can't be helped. If you do have to do it just pull the furniture away slightly so you increase the air circulation around the radiator and that will make it more efficient.
Radiators are very often situated under windows, this is to help combat the cold air you get around the window and also to help increase the convection. Although they are called radiators very little heat is given out by radiation from the front of the radiator. The majority of the heat you get from a radiator is given out through convection. This is where cold air enters the radiator at the bottom and hot air coming out of the top. This is greatly improved by the radiators convection fins that you now find at the back of modern radiators. Being under the window can create it's own problems. If you have curtains and you draw the curtains over the radiator then you are going to kill that convection process stone dead.
Thermostatic Radiator Valves
Another problem you can get with radiators is when they cover thermostatic radiator valves as they rely on a flow of air going past the sensor and if you cover it up with a curtain this stops the flow of air, so the sensor won't give you a proper reading of the temperature. The way around this is to get a thermostatic Radiator valve with a remote sensor.
Insulation
Around 30% of the homes heat
is lost through the roof and that means that loft insulation plays a very important part in energy conservation. If you have less than 200mm or 8 inches in your loft then it's well worth topping it up. That will save you money, keep you warmer and help the environment.
Thermostats
You can't beat sitting at home on a cold winters evening and feeling nice and warm. By turning your thermostat down by 1 degree you can save upto 10% on your heating bill and you probably won't even notice the difference.
